Helping Children make healthy choices

ALEC (Aberdeenshire Life Education Centres) is a partnership between Education & Recreation Service of Aberdeenshire Council, and nine north-east Rotary Clubs, providing two mobile classrooms (MCRs) which now visit every primary and nursery school in Aberdeenshire, delivering age appropriate programmes on health issues including drugs awareness.

The teaching style is interactive and multi-sensory, staffed by experienced primary teachers who have undergone three months’ intensive LEC training. The MCRs has an anatomically correct life-sized body model which lights up, a talking brain, special effect lighting, music and of course Harold, a singing giraffe who is a huge hit with the younger classes! Alec provides a unique learning environment and an unforgettable experience.
ALEC gives children an awareness of how their bodies work, how unique and special they are and how their health is influenced by the choices they make.

£3 per child would ensure a mobile classroom was available for the next 10 years, £250 provides a new Harold puppet, very soon mobile classroom refurbishment will cost £35,000.

Caring for Veterans in Scotland

Founded in 1916, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries.

Re-building shattered lives, restoring dignity and providing first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old have been the cornerstones on which Erskine has built an unrivalled reputation. As a charity, we rely heavily on voluntary donations and we would urge you to make a donation, no matter how small. Every donation we receive helps us to provide the highest standards of care for veterans throughout Scotland.

We are currently caring for 23 ex-Service men and women in Aberdeen through our Bursary Scheme. It cost £29 per minute to cover Erskine's total costs, £3,000 covers to cost of caring for one resident for a month, £100 covers one residents monthly catering costs, £50 buys a Zimmer frame, £230 buys a wheelchair.
