The Sand Walk is a charitable fund raising event
being orgainised jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Balgownie and Ellon.
2006 was its first year and the event continues to grow in popularity each year.
The challenge is to walk part of the expanse
of golden sand extending to the North of Aberdeen between the Bridge
of
Don and Newburgh. Participants have the choice of walking 5 miles
from Newburgh to Balmedie OR walking 6 miles from Bridge of Don to
Balmedie.
Parking for both options is provided at Balmedie and participants
will be transported by bus to the start of their chosen walk.
Participants should submit their application
form and they will be posted a sponsorship pack.
On their sponsorship form they can select which of the charities
being supported they would
like to raise funds for.
There is a registration fee to cover administration
costs. Any funds surplus to costs will be used by the two organising
Rotary Clubs to support local charities.
Participants must register to ensure enough transport
is available and enable the orgainisers to have sufficient resources
in place for the numbers participating.
The charities being supported in 2008 are
ALEC (Aberdeenshire Life Education Centres)
CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen and North)
Erskine (Caring for ex-servicemen and women)
(See charities page for further information)
